Olu Omagboye
Nigerian traditional ruler
About Olu Omagboye
Olu Omagboye (also known as Ogiame Omagboye) was the 12th Olu of Warri, reigning over the Kingdom of Warri from approximately 1709 until 1730. He succeeded his father, Olu Akenjoye, and was succeeded by his son, Olu Akengbuwa. His reign formed part of the hereditary succession of the Itsekiri monarchy during the eighteenth century.
Reign
Omagboye ascended the throne following the death of his father, Olu Akenjoye. Historical accounts describe his reign as a period in which the Warri monarchy maintained its political authority and commercial relations in the western Niger Delta, continuing the kingdom's longstanding interactions with neighbouring communities and European traders.
Following his death around 1730, he was succeeded by his son, Olu Akengbuwa, who became the 13th Olu of Warri.
Legacy
Olu Omagboyye is listed among the traditional rulers of the Kingdom of Warri in historical studies of the Itsekiri people and the Warri monarchy. His reign represents one of the successive hereditary administrations that shaped the political history of the kingdom before the colonial period.
