Muhammad Ziauddin

Muhammad Ziauddin (; 1938 – 29 November 2021) was a Pakistani journalist, economist and historian.

Early life and education Muhammad Ziauddin was born in 1938 in Madras, British India. In 1952, his family migrated to Dhaka in the then-East Pakistan. He obtained a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Dhaka before relocating to Karachi in 1960, where he pursued a master's degree in journalism at the University of Karachi, which he completed in 1964. In 1974, he joined the weekly Pakistan Economist, where he began specialising in finance and economic reporting, and by 1976 he had become assistant editor of the Morning News. During General Zia ul-Haq's military rule, he was barred from writing on political affairs owing to his critical views of the establishment.

The Express Tribune On returning to Pakistan, Ziauddin joined The Express Tribune at its inception in 2009 as its executive editor, a post he held until July 2014. At the time of his death, he was also chairperson of the Trust for Democratic Education and Advocacy and a board member of the Aurat Foundation.
