Mohit Bhandari

Mohit Bhandari is an Indian bariatric surgeon specializing in laparoscopic, metabolic, and robotic surgery. He has performed bariatric and metabolic procedures in India and has been associated with developments in robotic and telesurgery. He is the first surgeon in Indian subcontinent to have performed over twenty one thousand bariatrics and metabolic surgeries.

He is pro-chancellor of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences, Indore, Director of bariatric surgery at Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics, and Director at Enliten.

Career He is one of the first surgeons to perform robotic bariatric surgery in India and also the first Indian doctor to perform SADI-S surgery.

In September 2022, Allurion Technologies launched its weight-loss device in India following approval from the Central Drug Standard Control Organisation. Bhandari was associated with the introduction of the device in India and participated in clinical studies conducted before its approval.

In July 2025, Bhandari performed a robotic bariatric telesurgery procedure on a patient in Indore while operating remotely from Gurugram, a distance of approximately 850 kilometres. It marked a significant advancement in India's remote surgical capabilities. Later that month, he performed the world's first transcontinental bariatric surgery from Strasbourg, France to Indore, India.

Robotic telesurgery between Australia and India (2026) In May 2026, he performed a robotic gastrojejunostomy on a patient in Indore, India, from Perth, Australia, a distance of approximately 10,000 kilometres. The procedure was carried out using India’s indigenous SSI Mantra surgical robotic system, relying on high-speed, low-latency network connectivity for real-time control. The event was reported as a significant demonstration of long-distance robotic telesurgery and highlighted the potential of advanced surgical robotics to improve access to specialised healthcare across geographical boundaries.

World records On 15 August 2026, Bhandari participated in the "Surgical Swaraj" initiative and performed 51 robotic bariatric surgeries. In 2015, he was listed in the Limca Book of Records in connection with a series of 25 bariatric surgeries performed within an eleven-hour period by a surgical team of approximately 40 members. The previous record had been attributed to surgeon Atul Peters, who performed 16 surgeries in a twelve-hour period. He has been recognized by the World Book of Records for conducting 65 bariatric surgeries within a twelve-hour period and 25 robotic bariatric surgeries within ten hours and twenty five robotic bariatric surgeries in ten hours.
