Mickey Muñoz, aka Mickey Munoz, nicknamed "The Mongoose,"
He was featured in the 2004 surfing documentary Riding Giants. He currently resides in Capistrano Beach, California and designs boards for Surftech, a manufacturer of epoxy boards.
Born in New York City in 1937, he graduated from Santa Monica High School. Later, he was cast as the surfing stunt double for Sandra Dee in the 1959 film Gidget wearing a 2-piece bikini.
Honors The iconic Quasimodo stance is depicted in a statue of Mickey Muñoz by William Limebrook, unveiled at Watermen's Plaza, Dana Point, California on May 14, 2026. It was Limebrook's tenth life-size cast bronze statue of famous surfing and watersport athletes, filmmakers, artists, and entrepreneurs at Watermen's Plaza.
