Matteo Miccini

Matteo Miccini (born 13 June 1996) is an Italian ballet dancer and model. He danced with the Stuttgart Ballet from 2015 to 2026, rising to the rank of principal dancer (Erster Solist) for the 2025–26 season. Following his departure from Stuttgart, he is scheduled to join Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo for the 2026–27 season.

Early life and education

Miccini was born in Florence, Italy. He initially trained in artistic gymnastics before beginning ballet at the Ballet Centre in Florence. In 2010, he moved to Stuttgart to continue his training at the John Cranko School, graduating in 2015.

He is a grandson of Italian artist and writer Eugenio Miccini, a co-founder of the Italian visual-poetry movement Poesia visiva.

Career

Stuttgart Ballet

After graduating from the John Cranko School, Miccini joined the Stuttgart Ballet in 2015. He was promoted to demi-soloist in 2020, soloist in 2022 and Erster Solist, the company's principal rank, for the 2025–26 season.

Miccini's final performance with the Stuttgart Ballet was as Lenski in Cranko's Onegin in July 2026.

Writing for Exibart, dance critic Giuseppe Distefano discussed Miccini's interpretation and the work's physical and expressive treatment of the different stages of human life.

Selected repertoire

Miccini's repertoire spans classical, neoclassical and contemporary ballet. His principal and featured roles include Prince Siegfried in John Cranko's Swan Lake, Lenski in Cranko's Onegin, Mercutio in Cranko's Romeo and Juliet, Des Grieux in John Neumeier's The Lady of the Camellias, and Levin in Neumeier's Anna Karenina.

In 2026, he received the David di Michelangelo – City of Florence Danza World Award.
