Mary Fragedakis

Mary Fragedakis ( ; born April 22, 1971) is a Canadian politician who served as the Toronto city councillor for Ward 29 Toronto—Danforth from 2010 to 2018. She was the Ontario Liberal Party candidate for Toronto—Danforth in the 2022 Ontario general election. In 2026, she became a candidate for Ward 14 Toronto—Danforth in the 2026 Toronto municipal election.

Early life and education Fragedakis is the daughter of Greek immigrants and grew up in the Danforth community. She attended Wilkinson Public School, Earl Grey Senior Public School and Riverdale Collegiate Institute. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1996 with a Master of Arts in political science.

Prior to her election to city council, Fragedakis was involved for nine years with Open Dialogue, a conference and seminar organizing company. She was also one of the founders of the Broadview Community Youth Group. She defeated Ootes's preferred candidate, former councillor Jane Pitfield, receiving 41.8 per cent of the vote to Pitfield's 27.9 per cent.

2014 election Fragedakis was re-elected in the 2014 Toronto municipal election, receiving 59.3 per cent of the vote.

Toronto Transit Commission Toronto City Council appointed Fragedakis to the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) board in late 2016.

In 2017, she moved a motion to find $1.2 million for a subway reliability program that TTC chief executive officer Andy Byford said could reduce track-related subway delays by up to 30 per cent. During the city's 2018 budget process, she called for additional TTC funding to address overcrowding.

Along with mayor John Tory and TTC chair Josh Colle, Fragedakis advocated for the introduction of a two-hour transfer policy for TTC passengers using Presto.

Business improvement areas In April 2019, Fragedakis became executive director of the GreekTown on the Danforth Business Improvement Area (BIA). She remained in the position for more than six years, until her services were terminated in 2025. She was acclaimed as the party's candidate on March 17, 2021.

In the provincial election, Fragedakis finished second behind incumbent NDP MPP Peter Tabuns.

2026 Toronto election On August 21, 2026, Fragedakis registered as a candidate for Ward 14 Toronto—Danforth in the 2026 Toronto municipal election, seeking to return to city council eight years after her 2018 defeat.
