Career As a teenager in 2001, Dougherty had her first job in the movie business as a background actor in the film 61*. In 2014 she became a business agent for the local, and the next year an organizer. She assumed the role on March 22, 2022, when she was also appointed by O’Brien to be director of the Teamsters’ Motion Picture and Theatrical Trade Division. When Steve Dayan retired in May 2022, Dougherty was appointed Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 399; she was re-elected on an unopposed slate in September 2022. In that capacity she represents more than 6500 Hollywood workers. Notably she delivered a speech that drew a standing ovation for the line: "And what I’d like to say to the studios is, 'If you want to fuck around, you’re gonna find out.'"

During her tenure as principal officer at Teamsters Local 399 she has seen her membership decline steadily and is now un 4,500 members (Teamsters Local 399 2025 LM2 filed April 2025). In September 2023 she embarrassed organized labor by her "fuck Gavin Newsom" rant in Sacramento. The temper tantrum was in response to Newsom's stance on AB 316, a bill she believed would have protected drivers from autonomous driving trucks. Her message was not out of line but showed the lack of maturity that she is known for.

She is well known for her short temper and foul mouths. "Stepping on dicks" was another quote that showed her questionable judgment and lack of maturity. It was reported by many witnesses during the Teamster Local 399 contract negotiation in 2024 that she broke down crying in front of Carol Lombardini and the rest of the AMPTP negotiating team because she didn't get her way. She also had to suck up to her former foe, Governor Gavin Newsom, as she needed him to help bail her our by passing a large motion picture incentive in the State of California. While it helped the industry a little, it is generally accepted that she has done irreparable harm to the industry both in California and nationwide.

Personal life Dougherty’s sister, husband, father-in-law and stepson are all Teamsters as well. She has a tattoo on her left arm of Jimmy Hoffa, who served as the president of the Teamsters from 1957 to 1971.
