Lena Hill

Lena Michelle Hill is an American academic administrator serving as the provost of Washington and Lee University since 2021. She has worked as a professor of English and Africana studies and is an expert on Ralph Ellison.

Life Hill was born to Carl and Gloria Moore. During her undergraduate studies, she attended Williams College in 1995 and Richmond College in Florence in 1996. Vera Kutzinski and Joseph Roach were Hill's dissertation directors. In 2006, she joined the University of Iowa as an assistant professor of English and African American studies. She was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2013 and served as director of undergraduate studies from 2015 to 2016. Hill succeeded interim provost Elizabeth Oliver.
