About Lana Kolbrún Eddudóttir
Early life Kolbrún studied history at the University of Iceland. She is the first female and youngest chair of Samtokin '78, and was on the committee responsible for the recognition of same-sex civil partnerships with Guðni Baldursson.
In the 1980s, Kolbrún and her partner Elísabet Þorgeirsdóttir formed one of the first openly lesbian public couples in Iceland. Þorgeirsdóttir was another active member of Samtökin '78; she also worked as an editor, journalist, and social worker.
She lives in Reykjavík with her partner.
Kolbrún was the chair of Samtökin '78 from 1989 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1994. She served as a member of the Prime Minister's Office committee, which investigated the legal status of homosexuals. She submitted a report to the Althing in 1994.
Kolbrún made frequent media appearances during her involvement in the movements. She appeared in Í svartna sagt on Icelandic National Television. Such programs were controversial at the time. On this program, homosexuals and their family/friends talked about their lives.
