Kelvin Wachukwu

Kelvin Kinikanwo Wachukwu is a Nigerian engineer who served as the Rivers State Commissioner of Works in the First Wike Executive Council under Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike. He held office from December 2015 until his suspension on 3 April 2016 over alleged negligence of duty and failure to supervise government projects effectively.

Career

Wachukwu was appointed Commissioner of Works by Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike during a cabinet reshuffle in December 2015, succeeding Victor Giadom.

Suspension

On 1 April 2016, Governor Wike suspended Wachukwu from office with immediate effect. The announcement was made by the governor's Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu.

Two days later, Wike explained that the suspension resulted from negligence of duty, dereliction of duty and failure to deploy site engineers to supervise ongoing government projects. According to the governor, the absence of adequate project supervision could compromise the quality of infrastructure being executed by the state government.

On 9 May 2016, Governor Wike announced the appointment and swearing-in of Bathuel Harrison Iheanyichukwu as Commissioner of Works, replacing Wachukwu. While announcing the appointment, the governor said Wachukwu "could not meet up with the pace of work at the ministry" and urged his successor to maintain high standards of project supervision.
