Kelly J. Clark was a psychiatrist and physician.
Kelly J. Clark is an American physician and psychiatrist known for her work in the fields of substance use disorder, addiction medicine and addiction psychiatry. She received her M.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1989.
From 1996 to 2004, she served as assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts. She was a founding faculty member of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in 2010, where she taught until 2016. From 2014 to 2015, she was Chief Medical Officer of CleanSlate Centers and from 2014 to 2018, she was medical director of CVS Caremark. In 2018, she founded and became President of Addiction Crisis Solutions, She served in this role until 2019. However, she acknowledges that there are challenges patients face in obtaining access to methadone, naltrexone, and buprenorphine, the three FDA-approved medications for treating opioid addiction.
She has helped develop guidelines for dealing with opioid addiction in the workplace, medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction, and drug testing.
She has served as an expert on the opioid crisis to government officials such as the United States Presidential Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA), and the Office of the Comptroller General.
