Born 1955. Kath Walker is a New Zealand conservationist and malacologist.
Kathleen Joy Walker is a New Zealand conservation scientist and an expert on New Zealand snails. In 2023 Walker was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to wildlife conservation.
Conservation career
Walker joined the New Zealand Wildlife Service in 1981, and then worked for the Department of Conservation. Her research reexamined the status of Powelliphanta in New Zealand, describing 20 distinct species and 59 subspecies.
Honours and awards In the 2023 New Year's Honours Walker was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to wildlife conservation.
Personal life Walker's partner is Graeme Elliott, advisory scientist at DOC. Since 1991 the two have often travelled to the subantarctic to study Gibson's albatross and Antipodean albatross populations.
