Karl Toriola

Karl Olutokun Toriola is a Nigerian business executive and telecommunications engineer who has served as the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria since March 2021. Before his appointment, he held several senior leadership positions within the MTN Group, including Chief Executive Officer of MTN Congo, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon and Vice President for West and Central Africa (WECA).

Education

Toriola obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Communication Systems from the University of Wales, Swansea, United Kingdom.

Career

Toriola began his career with Ericsson Nigeria in 2000 as Support and Integration Manager. In 2003, he joined Econet Nigeria as Deputy Chief Technical Officer and later became Chief Operations Officer at Vmobile Nigeria, now Airtel Nigeria.

In 2006, he joined MTN Nigeria as Chief Technical Officer. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of MTN Congo in 2011 and subsequently served as Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon. He later became Vice President for West and Central Africa (WECA), overseeing MTN's operations across the region, before being appointed Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria in October 2020 to succeed Ferdi Moolman.

Following his appointment, Toriola assumed office as Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria in March 2021.

Professional affiliations

Toriola is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and a member of the Institute of Directors Nigeria. He also serves on the Governing Council of Lagos State University.

Personal life

Toriola is from Modakeke in Osun State, Nigeria. He is married.
