John Weiss

John George Weiss (February 17, 1921 – June 10, 1990) was an American professional football player who was an end for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL).

Early life John George Weiss was born on February 17, 1921, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He dropped out of high school and worked at a shipyard.

Professional career On August 3, 1944, Weiss signed with the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL) despite having no college or pro football experience. He also appeared in the 1944 NFL Championship Game, which the Giants lost to the Green Bay Packers by a score of 14–7. Weiss started all ten games at end for the Giants in 1945, recording four receptions for 82 yards and one touchdown, two fumble recoveries, and two kick returns for 36 yards as the team finished with a record of 3–6–1.

On January 16, 1946, Weiss re-signed with the Giants for the 1946 season. He played in seven games for New York in 1946, catching four passes for 70 yards and one touchdown. After the December 1, 1946, game against the Los Angeles Rams at the Polo Grounds, the Haskell Social and Athletic Club of Jersey City presented Weiss with several gifts. He appeared in one game for the New York Giants in 1947. He worked as a warehouseman at Acme Markets for 33 years until retiring in 1984. He died on June 10, 1990, at Jersey City Medical Center.
