John Joseph Snyder (October 25, 1925 – September 27, 2019) was an American prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as the eighth bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine in Florida from 1979 to 2000. Snyder previously served as an auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn in New York from 1972 to 1979
Biography
Early life Snyder was born in New York City on October 25, 1925, to John Joseph and Katherine Walsh Snyder. He attended St. Bartholomew and St. Andrew Avellino schools before studying for the priesthood at Cathedral College in Brooklyn, New York, and Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, New York.
Priesthood Snyder was ordained to the priesthood at the St. James Pro-Cathedral in Brooklyn for the Diocese of Brooklyn on June 9, 1951, by Bishop Thomas Molloy.
