About John Gifford

Lived 1870 – 1949 (aged 78–79).

John Clayton Gifford (February 8, 1870 – June 25, 1949) was a naturalist and forester who was the first American to hold a PhD in forestry.

He introduced Melaleuca trees to Florida

He later was employed at the University of Miami as a Professor of tropical forestry. It was established in 1947 and currently has collection of over 500 plants.
