Johanna Toruño (born December 1989) is a queer Salvadoran artist. She created The Unapologetic Street Series, a series of posters pasted across New York City that depict messages of queer pride.
Biography
Early life Toruño was born in San Salvador, El Salvador in 1989, during the Salvadoran Civil War. She arrived in the United States with only a few toys and her favorite Star Wars shirt.
Many of Toruño's posters can be found in Manhattan's Lower East Side.
Due to her displacement from El Salvador, Toruño does not know much about her ancestors, so much of her inspiration comes from her role models.
