Halima Buba

Halima Buba is a Nigerian banker and business executive. She is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SunTrust Bank Nigeria Limited. She was appointed to the position in January 2020 after a banking career spanning more than two decades, including senior management roles at Ecobank Nigeria.

Early life and education

Buba obtained a bachelor's degree in Business Management and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Maiduguri. She later attended executive programmes at the Lagos Business School. She is an Honorary Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants.

Career

Buba began her banking career in Nigeria and has worked in corporate banking, commercial banking, treasury management and business development. Before joining SunTrust Bank, she held senior management positions at Ecobank Nigeria, where she rose to the position of Deputy General Manager.

In January 2020, she was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SunTrust Bank Nigeria Limited, succeeding Jibril Aku.

She has been recognised among the female chief executives leading Nigerian banks and has featured in reports highlighting women in leadership within the country's banking industry.
