Born 1953. Dapo Sarumi is a Nigerian politician and minister.

Dapo Sarumi is a Nigerian politician from Lagos State. He was the former minister for Information. In 1991, he contested the Social Democratic Party (Nigeria) gubernatorial primary under the People's Front faction of the SDP led by Shehu Musa Yar'adua, members of the PF included Yomi Edu, Bola Tinubu, Abdullahi Aliyu Sumaila, Abubakar Koko, Babalola Borishade, Umaru Musa Yar'adua, Sabo Bakin Zuwo, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso but he was later dis-qualified.

In late 2000, he was involved in a traffic accident and lost two of his ministerial aides."Minister Loses Aides In Road Crash," Panafrican News Agency, December 27, 2000.

Early Life and Education Dapo Sarumi was born on 16 May 1944 in Epe, Lagos State. He attended Ansar-Ud-Deen School, Epe, for his primary education. He attended Ahmadiyya College, Agege, for his secondary education. He also completed his Advanced Level studies at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, he studied at the Brixton School of Building in the United Kingdom between 1967 and 1968, and obtained a degree from the University of Lagos, where he studied from 1972 to 1976.

Career Dapo Sarumi began his career at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in 1964, where he held technical and administrative positions, like Senior Technical Staff, Assistant Work Study Officer, Senior Work Study Officer, Data Processing Manager, Chief Systems Analyst, and Controller of Computer Services. He remained with the NPA until 1979. In 1979, he was Datamatics Company Limited Chief Executive Officer until 1991. In 1999, Sarumi was appointed Minister of Information under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo. In 2000, his portfolio was changed to Minister of Integration and Cooperation in Africa, a position he held until 2001.

Political career Sarumi joined partisan politics during Nigeria's transition to civil rule in the early 1990s. In 1992, he was elected to the House of Representatives to represent Epe Federal Constituency under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and served as Chief Whip during the Third Republic. Following the return to democratic rule in 1999, he was appointed Minister of Information. In 2000, he was appointed Minister of Integration and Cooperation in Africa.

Award Dapo Sarumi received the Achievers Award from the University of Lagos in 1999.
