He previously played for the , the , the and domestically, for the and in Super Rugby, the Panasonic Wild Knights in the Top League in Japan and Gloucester in the English Premiership Rugby.

He joined the Currie Cup team for the 2016 season.

On 9 September 2019, it was confirmed that Fourie would join Premiership Rugby side Gloucester for the 2019–20 season. He left on 9 April 2021.
