Cinsyla Key

Cinsyla Key is a French-British actress born in Brussels. She also works as a screenwriter and film producer. Her career has developed across screen acting, classical theatre, physical performance and independent project development. Before training as an actress in London, she studied archaeology, art history and film in Brussels and took part in archaeological fieldwork in Luxor. That background later became one of the sources of her approach to character, visual storytelling and cinematic worldbuilding, including the screen project ECHOES and a complementary activity she calls Historical Research for Screen.

Early life and education

Key was born in Brussels into a family of singers and dancers. She began performing as a child, winning a dance competition at the age of seven and appearing with local theatre companies.

The combination of classical text, voice and movement became central to her stage work. Her selected theatre roles include Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Phebe in As You Like It. She also played Phoebe in J. M. Barrie's Quality Street.

Her early screen experience included productions directed by François Ozon and Jaco Van Dormael, notably Angel and Mr. Nobody.

Key's work then expanded from conventional stage and screen settings into large-scale visual performance. On Franco Dragone's urban opera Get the Moon (Décrocher la lune), she worked both as a performer and in artistic and production coordination. The production combined theatre, movement, collective choreography, multimedia imagery and site-specific spectacle. This dual involvement—performing within the work while also contributing to its artistic and production organisation—gave her early practical experience in the development and coordination of large-scale visual projects.

Alongside performance, she later worked in film programming, including as head of programming in connection with the Europa Cinemas network. This placed her acting and film-analysis background in dialogue with audience development, curated film seasons and professional events for filmmakers.

Its main project is ECHOES, an English-language fantasy drama and psychological science-fiction project conceived as a short film and limited-series proof of concept. Inspired by W. B. Yeats's verse drama The Countess Cathleen, it combines Irish legend, physical performance and atmospheric visual development in a story concerned with sacrifice, exile and the recovery of memory.
