Chris Akomas

Chris Akomas (born 23 September 1960) is a Nigerian politician who served as the deputy governor of Abia State from 2007 until his resignation and subsequent impeachment in 2010.

Career

Chris Akomas began his career as a trade unionist and later worked with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan. During his time at the institute, he was actively involved in labour union activities and served in leadership positions within the workers' union.

His experience in organised labour and public affairs laid the foundation for his transition into politics, where he became a prominent figure in Abia State politics.

Political career

Chris Akomas began his political career in the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA). In 2007, he was elected Deputy Governor of Abia State alongside Governor Theodore Orji and assumed office on 29 May 2007.

During his tenure as deputy governor, Akomas represented the state government at official functions and undertook assignments delegated by the governor. In July 2010, he resigned from office following a prolonged political disagreement with Governor Orji. He subsequently sought the governorship ticket of the PPA ahead of the 2011 general election but was unsuccessful.

Akomas later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he remained active in party affairs and national political engagements.

Community activities

Chris Akomas has remained active in public affairs after leaving office as Deputy Governor of Abia State. As National Chairman of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria, he has participated in engagements on governance, economic policy, agriculture and constitutional reform.

He has also participated in initiatives involving collaboration between former public office holders and government institutions on issues relating to national development.
