William Ross Winter (January 28, 1940 β May 29, 1995) was an American professional football linebacker who played for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the St. Olaf Oles and was selected by the Giants in the 18th round of the 1962 NFL draft.
Early life William Ross Winter was born on January 28, 1940, in Milbank, South Dakota. He attended Spring Valley High School in Spring Valley, Minnesota.
College career Winter enrolled at St. Olaf College to play college sports for the Oles. He was a three-year letterman in football as a running back, two-year letterman in basketball, and one-year letterman in baseball. He was football team captain in 1961 and the team's most valuable player. He started for the Giants in the 1962 NFL Championship Game.
