Bert Matter (29 April 1937 in Baambrugge – 26 August 2026 in Zutphen) was a Dutch minimalist composer and organist.
Life and career Matter was born on 29 April 1937 in Baambrugge, where his father was a church minister. At the age of 20, he graduated from the Rotterdams Conservatorium. Since 1960, he taught organ at the musical school in Deventer, and later also in Arnhem and at the Utrechts Conservatorium. Since 1969, Matter was an organist at in Zutphen. He retired from this position in 2002 and was succeeded by Klaas Stok.
For some time, he served as the chief editor of Het Orgel, the official publication of the Dutch Organist Society.
Matter died on 26 August 2026 in Zutphen, aged 89.
