Barbara Hochstein

Barbara Eva Hochstein is a German–New Zealand radiologist, and radiology educator. She is one of New Zealand's longest-serving radiologists, and has led the establishment of mobile breastscreening services, the use of pregnancy scans for family violence detection, and the provision of out-of-hours radiology advice across Australia and New Zealand. In 2024 Hochstein was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to radiology and education.

Early life and education Hochstein is originally German, and arrived in New Zealand with her parents at the age of seven. She became a New Zealand citizen fifty years later, having waited until dual citizenship was permitted.

Career

Hochstein is based in Rotorua, and is one of New Zealand's longest-serving radiologists.

Hochstein is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Radiology at the University of Auckland, and has received fifteen 'best guest lecturer' awards.
