Andy Alaszewski

Andrzej Mark Alaszewski FRSA (; 25 April 1949 – 15 March 2026) was a British academic who was Emeritus Professor of Health Studies at the University of Kent from 2010 until his death in 2026.

Life and career Andrzej Mark Alaszewski was born in Lewisham, London on 25 April 1949, to Mieczysław Ałaszewski and Danuta Ałaszewski (nee Piotrowicz), refugees from Nazi and Soviet invaded Poland. He completed his undergraduate (BA in Social Anthropology, 1972) and postgraduate studies (PhD in Social and Political Sciences 1981) at the University of Cambridge.

Alaszewski specialised in the study of health, risk and society and was the founding editor of the journal Health, Risk & Society.

Alaszewski died at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent, on 15 March 2026, at the age of 76.
