Early life Selim was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota to an Egyptian father and a German mother. His parents were Dr. Mohamed Ali Selim and wife Evelyn Niemeier. He has two siblings. His father died in 2015 at the age of 91, and was a professor of economics at the University of St. Thomas. He ultimately directed all 6 episodes.
Personal life Selim is married to Robin Engstrom, of Swedish descent.
